Adriana Marfisi was born in Zurich and received her basic musical training (piano and violin) at the Konservatorium Zurich. Vocal trainings with Anna Alexieva in Zurich and Lorraine Nubar in New York followed. In Italy she studied with Margherita Rinaldi and Maestro Valentino Barcellesi and graduated at the Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini.

Adriana Marfisi won numerous vocal contests, such as the “Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation” in New York and the “Concorso Internazionale di Canto lirico Giulio Neri” in Italy.

In 1998 she debuted as Gilda in Verdi’s Rigoletto together with Leo Nucci at the TEATRO BELLINI DI CATANIA.

Her international career started immediately and led her to the following opera houses:
TOKYO SUNTORY HALL: La Traviata (title role), SAN FRANCISCO OPERA: Manon (title role), TEATRO COLON BUENOS AIRES: Falstaff (Alice) together with Renato Bruson, TEATRO CARLO FELICE DI GENOVA: Giovanna D’Arco (title role) under the direction of Werner Herzog, OSLO: Il Trovatore (Leonora) including an international radio transmission, FESTIVAL AUX ARÉNES AVENCHES: Giuglielmo Tell (Mathilde), Die Zauberflöte (Pamina), Aida (title role) and Il Trovatore (Leonora), TEATRO MASSIMO DI PALERMO: Turandot (Liu), TEATRO SAN CARLO DI NAPOLI: La Bohème (Mimi), TEATRO DELL’OPERA DI ROMA: I Capuleti e I Montecchi (Giuletta) with Sonia Ganassi, TEATRO VERDI DI TRIESTE: Iris (title role) under the direction of Federico Tiezzi, Aida (title role) under the direction of Ugo De Ana and the ZURICH OPERA: Il segreto di Susanna (title role) and Gianni Schicchi (Lauretta) with Leo Nucci.

She has also put a special emphasis on concerts (with Carlo Bergonzi, Leo Nucci, Marcello Giordano,…) in the great concert halls in Italy, Norway, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Monaco, Spain and Japan together with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the NHK Orchestra.

In addition to the classical Italian repertory (Verdi’s Messa da Requiem, Rossini’s Stabat Mater,…) she also sings the classical German, French and Spanish song repertory (Schubert, Beethoven, Schumann, Mahler, Brahms, Wolf, Ravel, De Falla, Debussy, Poulenc).

The plans for the season 2010/2011 include a concert tour through Japan, Aida (title role) with the NHK Orchestra in the Suntory Hall and a new production of Verdi’s Otello (Desdemona) at the Teatro di Trieste under the musical direction of Nello Santi and the artistic direction of Giulio Ciabatti.
